How much does the Kids Karpet® compact after installation?
How much Kids Karpet® material will I need to cover my play area at a compacted 12" depth?
Divide the square footage of the area that you need to cover by 27; this will give you the area in cubic yards. Next, the material will compact approximately 33% after it is first installed, so if you multiply your cubic yardage by 1.33 (33%), this will give you the amount of Kids Karpet® needed to cover the area at a compacted 12" depth.
Ex. 5,000 square feet needs:
5,000 / 27 = 185.19 * 1.33 = 246.3
In the example above, 246 cubic yards of Kids Karpet® is needed.

ASTM and CPSC require that you have a fall perimeter of at least 6 feet around the playground equipment, with the exception of swings and slides. Swings should have a fall perimeter of at least two times (2x) the height of the tallest point of the structure. Slides require a fall perimeter equal to the height of the slide plus 4 feet, extending to a minimum of 6 feet, needed in front of all slide exits.

Excavate the area and remove any roots, stones, or vegetation. Install geotextile fabric to the base of the area and fill in with 3" to 6" of drain stone, such as pea gravel. This amount of drain stone will be dependent on climate and amount of anticipated precipitation. Apply another layer of the geotextile fabric to the top of the drain stone.
-
Apply the recommended amount of Kids Karpet® on the top of the second layer of geotextile fabric. Be sure to apply 3" to 5" of Kids Karpet® in addition to your original 12" depth because the material compacts approximately 33% after only a few days of settling.

Install retaining border, such as timbers, if necessary or desired.
How much does the Kids Karpet® compact after installation?
Approximately thirty-three percent (33%).
